Our Griot
 What
You Owe Me
by Bebe Moore Campbell.
I recently read What You
Owe Me. by Bebe Moore Campbell. It was recommended to me by a friend whose
literary tastes are similar to mine; the book was good. It was worth the money
and the time I spent to read it, and it would make a very, very good movie.
The book moves through five decades to highlight the life of Hosanna Clark and
her two daughters. The book highlights "fifty years of family, friendship,
betrayal, and reconciliation". The book begins in post World-War ll through
the eyes of a dead woman who wants to make things right for her two daughters
who are still alive. It recounts the friendship of Hosanna Clark and a Jewish
woman named Gilda Rosenstein, a concentration camp survivor.
At the beginning of the story, the book draws parallels between the plight of
these two women as it explores issues of racism, discrimination,
prejudice, sexism, and classicism that affect them and the community around
them. Encouragingly though, the book also highlights the resilient and
entrepreneurial spirits of OUR PEOPLE. The author, Bebe Moore Campbell,
wrote a successful book about
enterprising people and their dreams to create successful and lucrative
businesses.
The book is successful too, I enjoyed it and I hope it is made into a movie.
LET ME KNOW IF YOU ENJOY it.
